m-onz is the founder of genre[fatigue] and an audio visual artist.

m-onz (Stephen Monslow) born in 1990, is a senior full stack software engineer working in fintech and has a career in sofware development starting in 2012. He gained a degree (well a HND) in music technology & algorithmic composition at ARU (Anglia Ruskin in Cambridge) where he began teaching himself to program computers.

m-onz is a multi-instrumentalist, music producer and writer. A proficient composer, drummer, guitarist, saxophonist, singer and creator of hours of music in many genres available here. There are also countless abandoned soundclouds and bandcamp alias’s that are lost.

At university m-onz created projection mapping software and visuals using java (processing.org) and worked as a VJ for the Warning and Spoonfed nights at the cambridge junction for the cream of the crop of drum and bass DJ’s including DJ Hazard, Logistics and nu:tone. He kept this job for about a year until he was unexpectedly fired for mixing business and pleasure.

Around April 2022 m-onz co-founded fakedac with VJ and algorithmic artist luis sanz and built up a well respected audio visual event brand with a string of legendary events at Corsica Studios.

fake[dac~] ended in 2025 after a disastrous tour around asia that ended with a falling out (call it artistic differences) fake[dac~] was conclusively finished. In the ashes a phoenix arises… genre[fatigue] is it’s complete evolution and replacement.

Now run soley by m-onz, genre[fatigue] has focus, ambition and has learnt from the mistakes and challenges of the past. genre[fatigue] is defining an “algorithmic audio visual artist” and what that can mean. Audio visual art has suffered from a fuzzy categorisation problem and people only understand DJ’s in modern club culture.

VJ’ing has always been relegated to an operator much like a lighting person, hidden in the backgound. VJ’s don’t get riders or flown to play gigs that can draw big crowds. There are exceptions to this rule but largely the VJ and AV artist is an unknown entity.

genre[fatigue] is defining this new concept of an algorithmic audio visual artist, putting on events, sharing code, patches and knowledge. m-onz openly shares his work, GLSL shaders and takes great effort to give away what others would keep behind closed doors as their secret sauce.

One thing m-onz has learnt is that sharing his knowledge and ideas openly has never diminished him, it only enriches. In a world of walled gardens, mis-information and psychological warfare genre[fatigue] is a pure expression of humanity. Innocent, powerful and without malicous intent or agenda.

Learn, empower yourself and much like the punk rock movement learn the three chords needed to start a band and scream into a microphone. Only this time it involves embracing algorithmic process and abandoning the idea you need to buy the shiny new hardware, software, plugin or sample pack to make it.

The bottleneck always has been and always will be your drive, taste, aesthetic sensibility, creativity, vision and imagination… not your connections, studio equipment or bank account.
